What is Covid-19 self-test kit?

SELF-TEST KIT is a test to check the Covid-19 status of a person at home. This self-test kit also can be done by the individual themselves. There are some covid-19 self-test kits that have been approved by Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM). Since most self-test kits use saliva, it is also known as a less painful method compared to a nasal swab.

When to use covid-19 self-test kit?

During this pandemic, testing is a very crucial step in order to stop the spread of covid-19. Whenever we develop symptoms like flu, fever, headache, cough, diarrhea, or fatigue, we must do a self-test at home. Besides, if you know that you already have exposure to anyone who is suspected or confirmed to have Covid-19, regardless of your vaccination status, you have to do a self-test and quarantine yourself at home.  This is because, with the new variant, there are also asymptomatic case where the infected person does not show any symptoms. According to KKM, this self-test kit also can be used to check the covid-19 status for university or job intake and cross country.

What to do before you use a Covid-19 self-test kit?

  • Read the instruction of the self-test kit
  • Check the expiry date and the kit, make sure everything is complete and in good condition
  • Wash your hands to avoid cross contamination
  • Make sure that the place has good ventilation, clean and dry
  • If an assistant is needed for the test, make sure the assistant wears glove and mask
  • Do not do the test at public area or when there are other people at the place to avoid the risk of getting infected

How to use Covid-19 self-test kit?

  • Follow the instruction
  • Take the sample by yourself
  • Observe the result after time instructed
  • Put the used kit in a plastic bag and throw it into a dustbin. Disinfect the place after the test
  • Wash your hands properly with soap

What to do after the covid-19 self-test?

  • Do an honest self-reporting at Mysejahtera Either the result is positive, negative, or invalid it must be updated.
  • If the result is positive– the individual needs to go to any private clinic or Klinik Kesihatan for health screening. Do not use public transport and please wear a proper mask.
  • If the result is negative– With symptoms, the individual needs to go to a private clinic or Klinik Kesihatan for health screening.
    • No symptom but close contact to anyone with a confirmed case, need to do self-quarantine at home
