Sudden Cardiac Arrest Facts & Figure

Did you know, in the U.S, out-of-hospital Sudden Cardiac Arrest leads to over 350,000 deaths per year? Did you know 95% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests are lethal? For every minute without CPR and defibrillation, a person’s chance of survival drops by about 7 to 10%. Every minute’s matter! Permanent brain damage begins after 4 minutes without oxygen, and death can occur as soon as 4 to 10 minutes later. Early CPR increases the chance of survival up to THREE times if someone performs CPR right away!

COURSE METHODOLOGY

We realized first aid remains a crucial skill even when the world is dealing with the COVID-19 crisis. Hence, we are offering an interactive and fun online first aid course where attendees are taught about live-saving skills theoretically and practical via demonstration and videos.

You will learn the basic principles of first aid, the difference of deaths, the use of a defibrillator, and familiarize yourself with basic life support. These provide the knowledge to overcome a potentially threatening situation while waiting for medically trained personnel to arrive on the scene.

IMPORTANCE OF BASIC OCCUPATIONAL FIRST AID, CPR & AED TRAINING FOR CORPORATE, OFFICE AND WORKPLACE

On September 2018, a man named Long Soo Keat had a sudden cardiac arrest during a football match with his fellow Chung Ling High School alumni at the school field. 5 high school students performed CPR on Loo, and also used the school’s AED to get his heart to beat again after 12 minutes.

Long met his rescuers on Oct 9 at the MASS CPR-AED 2018 in Pesta Site, Sungai Nibong, which there are over 1,000 people learning the skill.

Penang Heart Safe Programme chairman Datuk Dr Luah Lean Wah said although most of the participants are policemen, firemen, servicemen and personnel from the Malaysian Civil Defence, there are still slots available for the public.

“If you know CPR, you can save someone from sudden cardiac arrest because there are 40 public AEDs you can use,” she said.
