Course Introduction

This course is customized to educate lay person in the application of Automated External Defibrillator (AED) combined with ordinary CPR. The course fully adapts the latest 2020 AHA Guideline to ensure the training outcomes are met. This course also teaches how to provide treatment for Choking Adult, Child & Infant.

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) occurs unexpected and without warning. It is triggered by an electrical malfunction in the heart that causes an irregular heartbeat. The heart will be unable to pump blood to body, causes the person to collapse and become pulseless.

AED is an electronic devise that analyses heart rhythm and delivers electric shock to the heart of a person in SCA. Chances of survival will decrease by 7%-10 % every minute defibrillation treatment is delayed. Hence, delivering a lifesaving shock by a lay person/ bystander within the first few minutes of SCA can increase the survival rate up to 75%.

Objective Of The Course

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Deliver defibrillation to Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) victims
  • Demonstrate how to use AED with the combination of CPR
  • Strengthen Chain of Survival and to increase the survival percentage for suddencardiac arrest
  • Demonstrate and practice Lay Rescuer Basic Life Support (CPR) and Choking)
